If you think your apartment or home is ever too small to host people for a dinner party, think again!

When we were on the hunt for a new apartment in the suburbs, we knew one thing: we wanted to save money. Saving money meant we had to downsize from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 1 bedroom. We loved our two bedroom apartment but we felt like we had an extra bedroom that was meant for guests but we ended up using it for storage only. Ok, mostly for my clothes and shoes but that’s besides the point.

Our new 1 bedroom apartment is perfect for the both of us since we now have everything we want. The only downside is the living area not having much room for a dinner table, but because we have an island, we would have use for bar stools.

Well, we were very ambitious and thought it we would do something nice and host our first little dinner party to officially get the wedding planning started!

We invited those will be standing up in the wedding over for some drinks and a good night! (sidenote: we are missing a good chunk of the bridal party with half being in Puerto Rico and a couple people not being able to attend.)

We opted to not have them in the party room in our apartment complex because we felt it would be more inconvenient.

Trying to fit 10 people into a 1 bedroom apartment was a huge challenge and I definitely had a freak out moment but I am here to tell you it IS possible! You just have to get creative with how you arrange the furniture and how you set up your food.

Luckily, we have a huge island that provides a lot of space for us. We opted to have the food set up on there so that people could stand around the island as well. I love having a spread out like this because of the aesthetic alone and you just get everything out all at once for people to enjoy multiple times.

The drinks and glasses were set up on a different part of the island, separate from the food.

We had to rearrange our furniture entirely to fit the kitchen table and extra chairs we were using.

Needless to say, we were very cozy. However, cozy meant it was more intimate with just the right amount of food and people. I love setting up the space with fresh flowers, candles, great food, and music. I am a huge fan of playing Spanish guitar or salsa so that my guests feel like they’re kind of able to escape mentally, as if they were on a little vacation!

Dinner parties for me are so fun whether I am hosting or going to one. Ultimately, I love being able to host those whom I love and care about most. It means the world to me to be able to provide with great food, drinks, and the best kind of company!

Here are 5 quick tips and recommendations for hosting a dinner party in a small space:

1. Rearrange furniture! Have fun and get creative if you have to!

2.Be prepared ahead of time. Hector and I had a lot going on these last few weeks and Saturday we had plenty to do.

3.Have the food and drinks out before your guests arrive and throughout the night. That way, they can enjoy it at any time they want. This alleviates the pressure off of YOU without having a 5 course meal to prepare.

4. Set up the space with some really great details like candles, fresh flowers, intimate lighting, and music.

5. Remember to have fun and not sweat the small stuff! In the end, your guests will appreciate you going the extra mile in any way to provide them with great food and a good time.

What are your go-tos for a dinner party? Do you do a sit down dinner or do you prefer little appetizers set out for people to enjoy all night?
